PINE MOUNTAIN HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO HONOUR LOCAL BOY, "BERT"
At the Pine Mountain Historical Society's most recent meeting, a motion was passed to honour our local boy, test cricketer, Herbert ("Bert") Ironmonger.
Bert was born & raised on Riverside Drive in Pine Mountain.
The Society will engage with the Department of Transport & Main Roads - the overseeing body for the Trail - in regards to installing signage about Bert along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Pine Mountain, along with a bench for Rail Trailers.
The Society is considering contacting the author, Max Bonnell, about his most recently published biography of Bert, in order to obtain authorised access to clear, historical photos to use on the signage. And for guidance on the wording of the signage that will be installed.
This sign along the Trail about Bert Ironmonger will complement the Roy Emerson sign that is along the Trail at Nukku - Australia's longest Rail Trail is home to two great sporting icons!
We look forward to keeping you in the loop with progress on the signage & the bench that will be installed along the Trail at Pine Mountain.
