KOALA ALERT!
PET DOGS KILL PINE MOUNTAIN KOALAS
We have heard reports at Division 10 meetings of Koalas being brought in injured from Pine Mountain. Dog owners are reminded that a koala tends to travel straight to its target area (usually a food tree) and will climb fences, posts, houses or any other obstacle in its path. Any dog will feel threatened by a koala crossing into its territory and will attack it. Because a koala's skin is so pliable, internal organs are easily punctured. Even a quick bite can cause a slow, agonising death.
What you can do to prevent dog attacks.
1. Tie up dogs every night or enclose them on a patio.
2. Check trees before leaving dogs unattended all day.
3. Create a "koala friendly" corridor by planting koala food trees along fence lines. (You can get free gum trees from the
Council)
4. Consider the size of the dog before acquiring it. Small dogs are more alert and make a better alarm system than larger
dogs. They also do less damage to property, children and wildlife
